AI Therapy? For Real?
Have you heard that AI therapist and Digital companions industry is booming? Are you interested in their effects and their efficacy? Interested in AI Therapist and the ability of ChatGPT to become your friend and confidant?
I'd advice against it. Some reasons are obvious (privacy), but others are a little more subtle. Check out my three articles outlining how science fiction, including it's downsides, is becoming science fact.
I personally do not intend to use them that way, but the articles below will show you the potential downsides.
There was another article out on how Meta is aiming to cure the loneliness epidemic with virtual friends. We don't need another layer of technology to plaster over the problem that layers of technology caused. I have also been trying to use the terminology of 'potentially therapeutic' (or pseudotherapy instead of psychotherapy) and in terms with journaling.
Article 1:

This article focuses on the downsides of Overuse and Privacy. It has been my most popular article. It links to the Dartmouth study showing the first randomized control trial of AI therapy.
Article 2:
Are AI Therapists Safe? 5 Risks you should know.
Check out my article on Hackernoon where I go into much more detail on these five topics:
- Addiction Risks
- Data Privacy Risks
- Corporate or Gov’t Control
- Dehumanization
- Algorithmic Bias
Article 3:
